The advances in electronic media is, to my mind, both exciting and a little frightening. No, frightening is too strong a word. 'Concerning' would be more appropriate. Every day technology takes us further and further away from one another. Now, even the tactile sensation of reading a book has been lost to us thanks to ebooks. I love the touch of a book. The turning of its pages. Even the smell of a newly published book. There was also the intangible sense that I was touching something made by a variety of creative talents. I can still remember how amazed I was going to a library as a child. It seemed to me to be a kind of temple. A temple dedicated to knowledge and ideas. Soon Libraries will exist only to store old books and all new material will be read electronically.
Still there is the other side of the coin. Thanks to Kindles, and the like, I can have my favorite books with me at all times. More important, the doors for being published are now open for new, and old, writers whose work haven't found a home with a publishing house, now have lucrative alternatives to conventional publishing thanks to Amazon Kindle among others. As a writer, the future looks most promising.
And a little concerning.
